Images of the pollution being emitted by the Spanboard processing plant on Saturday 2nd August 2003.  It is sited at Castleroe, Coleraine.

This factory was emitting a highly irritating plume of dust and gases, as seen by the blue haze in the images below.  The fumes irritate the eyes, nose and throat making sitting out in warm weather intolerable.  The smoke also induces a feeling of nausea. There is the additional problem of noise pollution which means leaving windows open in warm weather is impossible.  Many mornings we find our cars covered by wood dust from that factory. At times on this day, the garden was filled with a blue haze, making breathing difficult. The Environmental Health Department of Coleraine Borough Council have been contacted about this ongoing problem.
